Power of Spiritual Mothers

Mother’s Day is fast approaching and we all tend to reflect on our own mothers and, if we are a mother, on our children. It’s one thing to be a physical mother on this earth but there is such great need for spiritual mothers.

Many younger women find themselves living away from their own mother, some do not have a good role model and others have lost their mother. Younger women are craving older, wiser and Godly women to come alongside them in life. The need for older women to care, nurture and impart into younger women is greater than we realize. Godly, older women often bring wisdom, strength, steadfastness and a peace into the younger generation.

The call for the older women in the church to feed into younger women comes from Titus 2:3-5 which says,

Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good.  Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.

Titus 2:3-5

God’s Word serves as the premier guide on living in community. Our society is facing a desperate void of Godly women who are willing and able to mentor younger women. Our churches provide the best opportunity to train and equip the younger generation to live Godly lives.

For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people.  It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.

Titus 2:11-14

Let’s be purposeful as we plan for ministries to impact our community. Spiritual mentorship is the essence of discipleship. The power of older women to influence the younger generation should not be missed. It may just be the ingredient to transform our communities.
