Young Adults’ ministry is a vital part of a healthy church. This age group faces many of life’s key decisions that affects one’s future. They make decisions about:
- Faith – what they believe about God and their eternity
- Life Purpose – what they were made for and what they will spend their time doing
- Relationships – who they choose to be their inner circle and their life partner
There can be much confusion during this time in life and there are many voices fighting to influence their beliefs and choices. God’s truth needs to be the filter through which every voice runs through; thus the need for powerful and relevant young adult ministries.
It’s been said that the brain doesn’t fully mature until your mid-twenties. This furthers the call for Biblical guidance and influence during this time period. Many of life’s greatest regrets happens during this season of life as caution is thrown to the wind, and negative voices influence painful decisions.
Statistics reveal that 44% of all abortions happen between the ages of 18-24. (1) This life-altering decision will carry consequences far greater than ever expected. One little decision that often creates a great ripple effect of pain and regret into many areas of a person’s life.
Young Adult leaders often shy away from such topics as abortion as they don’t want to seem controversial. Yet, our silence messages that God doesn’t have the answer and that the world knows best. Leaders, you are on the front lines and often the spiritual guide for decisions that are eternal and decisions that will bring life or death. Now is not the time to back away since God has provided the best way in which we are to live our lives. Young Adults attend church because the world is not giving them the answers that carry hope, healing and life.
