Many studies have been done showing a link between abortion and depression. Studies reveal that one out of every three women who have experienced abortion struggles with depression. You can read the findings HERE.
Many who experience abortion were told that it’s a quick, easy procedure and you can get on with your life as before. Contrary to that mantra, unexpected emotional issues often follow. Most feel they are the only ones who feel the way they do, and many struggle alone.
Mary Szoch, director of the Center for Human Dignity at Family Research Council, told The Washington Stand, “The new meta-analysis revealing that one in three women suffer serious depression after an abortion affirms what we all innately know to be true: Abortion goes against a woman’s very nature. From the moment of her child’s conception onward, a mother’s life will always exist in relationship to her child. That child is, and always will be, a part of her. Science demonstrates this very clearly. A mother’s own DNA is altered by the child she is carrying. A mother’s unborn child literally leaves behind an imprint in her mother’s DNA changing that mother’s DNA to include a part of the child.” See article HERE.
Common sense tells us when this bond is broken between a mother and her baby, depression can be a result. However, we know that Jesus Christ offers hope and redemption. Psalm 147:3 promises, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”
Jesus Christ wants to heal depression and restore joy. He redeems, restores and offers hope and peace. Healing from depression can come from no one other than our Savior. He knows our minds, our pain and the antidote for all that threatens to overwhelm us. There is no secular shortcut to complete healing. It is only found through Jesus Christ.
It is essential for churches to either offer after-abortion healing or have a referral source for Biblical healing. Our resource guide, which you can find HERE, includes several after-abortion Bible studies including training on how to implement effectively. You can also check out the link in the guide to find a local pregnancy center that may offer this type of abortion healing.
As our churches continually message the pathway to receive healing following abortion, we will see the darkness of depression following abortion disappear and be replaced with joy!
