Post-Abortion Healing

God’s Forgiveness for Past Abortions

Many who have made an abortion decision in their past feel they have committed an unforgivable sin. The good news is, feelings don’t determine truth. The church is strategically chosen to bring the good news of God’s forgiveness to all. When a church stays silent regarding abortion, it messages the decision to abort is unforgivable.

It’s been shown that around 25% of those in church have made a decision for abortion sometime in their past. These are your Sunday school teachers, deacons, pastors, congregation members and visitors. We rarely know who is struggling with a past abortion decision because many have chosen the pathway of silence due to shame and guilt.

It’s time for the captives to be set free!

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion, to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.  They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.

Isaiah 61:1-3

God is in the transformation business!  He takes brokenness and hopelessness, flips the script, and brings beauty from ashes.  Our choices to walk apart from God’s standards can only be fixed and remedied by eternal restoration and godly methods.  Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life.”  In both of these Isaiah and Romans passages we see a beautiful picture of how God takes the brokenness of our lives and completely transforms us.

When He redeems, He no longer remembers our sin.  Take a look at several scriptures that speak emphatically to this truth:

  • “I, even I, am He that blots out your transgressions for My own sake, and will not remember your sins.” Isaiah 43:25
  • “For I will forgive their wickedness, and I will remember their sins no more.” Jeremiah 31:34
  • “And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.” Hebrews 10:17
  • “As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.” Psalm 103:12

Perhaps we think we’ve done too much, and we’ve gone too far. The truth of the matter is that we can never run away from His redemptive work. There is nothing stronger, and more loving, than what Jesus Christ did on the cross, and if we think there’s no way God could forgive us, then in essence, we’re saying that we’re stronger and more powerful than God. And that’s not possible! No sin, no compromise and no failure could ever have more power than the work of the cross. To suggest that God is too weak and that His work on the cross wasn’t enough is to believe one of the Enemy’s greatest lies.

As we walk securely in redemption, may our minds and hearts echo the words of our Creator in Jeremiah 31:3, “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.”
