Since the reversal of Roe v. Wade, activists in favor of abortion rights have been spreading misinformation by falsely claiming that women’s lives will be endangered. This misleading agenda has caused concern among many who fear that they will be denied medical treatment in certain states if they experience a miscarriage.
However, this claim is untrue.
Miscarriage is not the same as having an elective abortion. This confusion may stem from the fact that some medical records refer to a miscarriage as a “spontaneous abortion.” This term simply describes how the pregnancy ended and does not imply an elective abortion.
It is important to note that a miscarriage is not the intentional and deliberate ending of a baby’s life; it is a naturally occurring event. In contrast, elective abortion is the, voluntarily and willfully, medical intervention to end and destroy a baby’s life. These are two distinct situations.
Medical care for individuals experiencing a miscarriage (the loss of a baby before 20 weeks) or stillbirth (the loss of a baby after 20 weeks) is and will always be legal and supported by the medical community and those who advocate for life.
Miscarriage and stillbirth are heartbreaking moments for the parents. Instead of allowing pro-abortion advocates to use miscarriage to advance their agenda and instill unwarranted fear, may the church use its voice and actions to show compassion to those who have experienced the unfortunate loss of their child.
It is a blessing when a church offers support for miscarriage and stillbirth. Our Resource Guide page recommends two studies, Anchored and Grace Like Scarlett. For further information on these studies, click HERE.
A church that provides compassionate support and acknowledges the loss of life can become a source of hope and healing.
