Life in College

In 2019 the State of California passed a bill which mandated that all Universities offer access to abortion pills in their health centers. This law went into effect on January 1, 2023. In essence, the bill forced all 10 University of California campuses and all 23 California State University campuses to offer the two-dose abortion pills through their health centers.

The two-dose abortion pills (also known as RU 486, Medical Abortions or Chemical Abortions) are to be used up to 10 weeks of pregnancy and through this bill, students became abortionists and the dorm rooms became abortion clinics.

Of course, the rest of the states don’t mandate this on their college campuses, but several are moving forward to follow suit and many health centers on campuses are a referral source for abortion clinics.

The emotional effects of having an abortion in a dorm room is hard to imagine. The physical effects could be life threatening.

With the majority of women obtaining abortions being between the ages of 20-24 and over half of all abortions being chemical abortions, college campuses are a prime target for the abortion industry.

College-age young people are at such a pivotal time. They are making decisions that will direct the rest of their life. Decisions are made for their career choice, relationships, values and morals, and each one carries consequences – some beneficial and some painful.

Our college-age young people need to hear that their life has value and the importance of making decisions that bring value to themselves and others. Quick, uncommitted sexual relationships often lead to heartbreak and pain. Choices made in a split second may reap a lifetime of regret.

It is imperative that we care and invest in our young people in sacrificial ways. There is great influence with Christian men and women who choose to journey with young people through their college years. Your love, sacrifice, care and concern for them will go a long way in empowering them to live a life of purpose and great intention.

As the Church, we are to be aware of the pressures many college students face. Many around them are in uncommitted relationships outside of marriage. Many are quickly choosing abortion if they find themselves pregnant. They are being told it’s irresponsible to have a child while you are getting your education. In fact, they are pressured to choose abortion as they are told they could never finish their degree if they move forward with the pregnancy.

Instead of offering death and hopelessness, let’s be messengers of strength, life and hope. Let’s journey through life with our college students. They are worth our investment.
