Power of Prayer

Developing and growing a life-affirming ministry in your church is a powerful expression of God’s love for mankind. As we plan and strategize to be most effective, we often focus on what we see and do. We are visual people. We like to work with our hands. We gravitate toward what we see and hear. By default, we may begin to measure our success by focusing on what we can evaluate tangibly.

However, if there is one thing we know as believers, is that the majority of our work is done in the spirit world. We are reminded of Ephesians 6:12, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

Our real work is done through prayer. Life-affirming ministries at the Church level is hitting one of the enemy’s greatest strongholds. We can’t and won’t succeed unless we are people of prayer. Yes, we will spend ministry time encouraging, supporting and resourcing those we minister to. Yet, if we’re not spending the same amount of time in prayer, our efforts will fall flat. It is helpful to establish concerted prayer times as a team, along with your personal prayer time.

In a previous post, the Power of a Prayer Walk, we listed several things to pray for. However, one area that can often be overlooked is a time of prayer for those involved in performing abortions. Imagine what could be released in your city if you began to pray for the abortion workers and clinics in your community. Those that work in abortion clinics are just as loved and valuable in God’s eyes as the preborn lives and their mothers that we endeavor to serve. They need us to pray and intercede for them that they would see God’s truth, love and value for all humanity, including themselves. They need healing. And most importantly, they need to walk into salvation and redemption with Jesus Christ.

Hearts will not change unless we petition God in prayer. This is the avenue He set up for us to partner with Him. Let’s diligently stand united in prayer for those performing abortions, that their eyes will be opened and their hearts committed to Christ. Only then, will we see lasting change, both on earth and into eternity!
