Ministry Ideas

Time of Prayer

One of the most powerful things a life-affirming ministry can do is meet for prayer. It is by far the most impactful step you can take. As we have mentioned in previous posts, abortion is a spiritual issue, so it must be surrounded with prayer.

Throughout the entire New Testament, we see the model of prayer. Jesus often withdrew for times of prayer. He encouraged his disciples to overcome evil through prayer. Before the disciples went out to preach the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, they were exhorted to remain in prayer in the upper room. Prayer is the greatest weapon we possess and the one that can overcome evil.

For your life-affirming ministry, it is helpful to schedule nights of prayer for the upcoming year. Make them a priority and be consistent. Perhaps you want to schedule them once a week, once a month, or once a quarter. Consistency is key in keeping the importance of prayer a focus.

Here are some ideas to make your night of prayer special and impactful.

  • Include a short time of worship
  • Offer communion
  • Have background worship music playing during the evening.
  • Have both individual and corporate prayer time.

Here are some ideas on what to pray for:

  • Pray to have hearts of compassion for those being ministered to.
  • Pray against the fear mothers and fathers may be feeling at the overwhelming thought of being pregnant.
  • Pray against the lies from the enemy to those being ministered to and that God’s truth that brings freedom will be revealed.
  • Pray that the lives of the unborn will be saved and their parents will receive support.
  • Pray for healing and redemption for those who have been impacted by abortion.
  • Pray for our country to welcome and protect the most vulnerable of all – the preborn.
  • Pray that our words would speak life and not condemnation.
  • Pray for the family members and friends who have influence on others’ pregnancy decisions and for those who have been impacted by others’ abortion decisions.
  • Pray for your local and nationwide pregnancy resource centers. These organizations are on the frontlines daily fighting for life, hope and healing.
  • Pray for abortion clinics and their workers that they may find Jesus Christ and be delivered, healed and made whole. Pray that abortion clinics all over our country will be permanently closed.
  • Pray for our elected leaders that they will make God-honoring decisions.
  • Pray for purity in relationships and that individuals would follow God’s beautiful and perfect plan.
  • Pray for protection for families that they would follow God’s design.

Of course, this is not an exhaustive list and neither should prayer time be formulaic. The power of coming together as a group to pray life over those contemplating abortion and healing for those who have experienced abortion can not be underestimated. It is simply the greatest tool we have.

“Prayer does not just fit us for the greater work. Prayer is the greater work.
