I remember when I first met her. She was a beautiful young girl, but her eyes conveyed a great sense of fear. As she began telling me her story, she mentioned that she thought she might be pregnant. She spoke of the relationship she was in, expressing her desire not to be tied to the person as he had not treated her well. She was upset with herself for choosing to be with him. I saw a young girl seeking love but only finding a counterfeit pseudo-love that brought her only pain.
Many people search for true love, but often rely on their feelings, which can be ever-changing, or perceptions of who they think a person is. As this young girl told me her story, she wondered aloud, “Why was I even with him?” With compassion, I suggested, “Let me guess… because, at least for 20 minutes, you weren’t alone.” Sadly, she nodded in agreement. She had never experienced unconditional love, and the craving inside her heart, along with that of all humanity, questioned, “Does anyone truly love me?” “What is real love anyway?”
God is the only one who can completely fill this longing inside her. Nothing else will satisfy. Until she experiences and accepts His love for her, she will continue to walk from one empty relationship to another.
The agape form of love, offered by our Creator, moves us to not settle for anything less than His best for us. He has set guidelines for us to keep harm away. He desires to show us how to love and how to receive love. He has given us the gift of godly marriage that brings freedom and joy.
When we have opportunities to share with others and be a part of their journey, we can guide them into a relationship with Agape Love. In this way, they will live in the identity God created for them and walk in their royal status as a son or daughter of the King. This kind of life will guide them away from unhealthy relationships and into a relationship designed for them by God, which will bring about abundant life.
May we always be messengers of True Love.
